Clara Schweers is a designer whose part digital - part physical body of work developed during her Masters in Contextual Design at Design Academy Eindhoven. Her graduation project and auto-theoretical multimedia installation “Into each other” was nominated for the Gijs Bakker Award 2022, expanding on the constraints and possibilities of computer-generated bodies in moving images. Through her embodied and material practice she distorts predetermined motions of stock bodies, generating sets of behavioral qualities, originating from within liquid-crystal-displays. Her interest in narration accompanies Clara through her object-based and cinematic compositions leaving the viewer unable to distinguish between glass, ceramics, and the glossy textures of computer-generated images.
Glass has been the continuous element throughout her work over the past four years. During her Bachelor studies, her graduation project of glass objects entitled ‘Waters’, was awarded as the winner of the Future Objects & Materials category of the one-year-long research program Water Futures at A/D/O in Brooklyn.Clara is part of the female collective Many to Many, which formed during a residency in 2021 at an old monastery in Germany working alongside the idea of the Genius Loci – the spirit of the place. Sprung from the collective, she became further intimate with the two designers Delphine Lejeune (BE) and Kurina Sohn (KR). Together they form the trio DL-KS-CS, questioning the categorizations, interspecies connection, and digital hybrids throughout their projects, one of which is currently on view at the Museum of Applied Art and Design in Vilnius, Lithuania during Invisibles. Clara recently participated in the Group Show Pools of Swallowed Grounds which was previewed during the Mayrit Biennale at Casabanchel.
